The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has uploaded the approved logo of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) on its official portal, following a Federal High Court judgment directing the commission to recognise and use the party’s modified logo for electoral activities.
The development has been welcomed by the National Leader of the NDC, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, who described the development as an important step for the party and its candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC’s official records currently list the Nigeria Democratic Congress as a recognised and certified political party, with Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe listed as National Chairman.
In a statement, Dickson congratulated the leadership of the NDC and Nigerians, saying the commission’s action was in compliance with the court order and the party’s constitutional processes.
“Congratulations to the entire leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and to all Nigerians, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has uploaded our preferred and approved party logo, in compliance with the order of the High Court, as provided for in our Constitution and ratified by the National Executive Committee (NEC),” he said.
The development followed a judgment delivered by Justice J.O. Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja in a suit filed by the NDC over the recognition of its modified logo. Reports on the judgment said the court ordered INEC to approve and upload the modified logo, including its symbol and colours, for the party’s political activities and participation in elections.
Dickson expressed appreciation to the Nigerian judiciary and to INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, as well as members of the commission, for complying with the judgment.
He also commended NDC National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, members of the National Executive Committee, and the party’s candidates and members for their understanding and commitment during the process.
According to him, the uploading of the approved logo provides certainty for NDC candidates to proceed with the production of campaign materials and continue their consultations and campaigns.
“Our approved logo has now been uploaded, and candidates can print campaign materials and continue their consultations and campaigns with certainty,” Dickson stated.
The NDC National Leader further assured the party’s candidates and Nigerians that the party would remain committed to the process, declaring that its members would continue to defend what they regard as their democratic rights.
He urged NDC candidates across the country to work closely with the party at all levels in constituting their campaign teams, stressing that candidates contesting under the NDC platform should operate within the structures of the party.
He particularly warned candidates against what he described as “self-sabotage.”
“I call on all candidates to work with the party at all levels in the composition of their campaign teams as they are not independent candidates and AVOID SELF-SABOTAGE,” he said.
Dickson also called on party members and candidates to counter propaganda and misinformation that could create divisions within the party.
He urged members to remain focused and avoid being distracted by what he described as rumours capable of undermining the party and its candidates.
According to the former Bayelsa State governor, the NDC was founded on a commitment to democratic ideals and was prepared to defend the democratic rights of Nigerians and promote multi-party democracy.
“The NDC is a product of vision, selfless dedication, and commitment to democratic ideals. We are prepared to fight to uphold the democratic rights of Nigerians and to ensure that multi-party democracy thrives,” he said.
Dickson concluded his statement with the party’s rallying call:
“NDC all the way.”
The INEC update comes as political parties and candidates intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections. The commission’s website currently displays the NDC’s modified logo and identifies its principal national officers as updated by court order.
